Canal Location

This base is at Bridge 5 of the Llangollen Canal [note there are 2 Bridge 5’s on the Llangollen!], approx 1 mile to the west of Frankton Junction. It is a good location for exploring all of the Llangollen Canal, and also the Montgomery Canal, which is the subject of an ongoing restoration scheme.

Directions

Located on the A495 in Shropshire, approximately mid-way between Ellesmere and Oswestry.

By rail, the nearest station is at Gobowen, which is on the Shrewsbury-Chester line. There is a taxi rank at the station, from which it is a 3 mile journey.

When you arrive, report to reception, who will advise you where to unload and leave your car, which is in a locked and safe compound.

Yard Description

This boatyard is owned and run by Colin Hill, who owned Swan Line Cruisers at Fradley some years ago, and is familiar with the OwnerShips scheme from that time. It is open from 9.00 to 5.00, and can be contacted on 01691-662424. They have an ‘out of hours’ emergency number 01691-661051.

If you anticipate an arrival out side of the normal hours, telephone the main number and arrangements can be made with Colin to leave a key out for you, only up until 11.00pm though. He will provide details at the time.

Yard Services

As this is also a hire-boat base, all the usual services [gas, diesel pump-outs] are available.

Valets should be booked at the start of your holiday.

There is a small grocery and chandlery on site, and a pub & restaurant right alongside.
